Cusco, often spelled Cuzco, Peru is the undisputed archaeological capital of the Americas. A city filled with history, like the rise and fall of the Inca Empire and the invasion of Spanish conquistadors in the 1500, Cusco is the continent’s oldest continuously inhabited city.
Today, remnants of both eras share the narrow city streets – from centuries-old baroque cathedrals to exquisite stone masonry – creating a rare collision of Andean and Spanish styles that makes Cusco like no other place on earth.
Cusco is the gateway to the famous Incan citadel, Machu Picchu – an UNESCO World Heritage site. However, the ancient ruins are not the only impressive thing that surrounds Cusco. A main factor for the existence of these temples and citadels is the surrounding fertile, agricultural land. The sacred importance of crop fertility the surrounding mountains and nature helped the Incas decide on the location to build Machu Picchu.
When it comes to Cusco’s natural beauty, expect crystal-clear blue skies, cool weather, refreshing mountain breezes and incredible sunsets. In addition to nature, the Peruvian city is filled with an abundance of exotic plants and animals, and is home to familiar crops like potatoes, quinoa and cacao.
It's important to note that days will be long and filled with fun, culture and adventure. Towards the end of each day, you’ll be ready for the mouthwatering, gourmet Peruvian dinners and desserts we have planned for you.
These dinners will be served in an informal, family-style setting. An opportunity for you to nourish yourself in a comfortable atmosphere while connecting with others. Recounting stories and swapping objectives with the Live Alive community is a time-honored tradition to get you excited for the next day! Imagine yourself here. Being in the magic of the environment, soaking in all the views, practicing yoga with the Live Alive community and allowing yourself to connect to the history and culture of a new city. Space is limited.
