FAROE ISLANDS

September 29-October 5, 2024

Join the Live Alive Adventures community for an unforgettable, seven- day, six-night retreat in the Faroe Islands!

The Faroe Islands, a collection of 18 islands and more than 750 islets, home to around 50,000 people, 70,000 sheep and a few million seabirds. Full of dramatic, rugged landscapes, plummeting waterfalls and scooped-out sea grottoes.

Coastal village with colorful houses near mountains and ocean.

The forgotten Faroes are just a short flight from the UK, yet they’re way off the standard traveler's radar. Multicolored cottages and grass-roofed wooden churches add focus to the grandly stark, treeless moorlands. Timeless networks of cairn-marked footpaths crisscross craggy layer- cake mountains. But even the tiniest once-inaccessible hamlets are now linked by a remarkable series of road-tunnels. And even as you bob around the dramatic fjords on a 70-year-old wooden sloop, your mobile phone is never likely to lose its signal.

Tórshavn is one of the world’s smallest capitals, although it’s home to over a third of the Faroese population. Behind the harbour and a charming if tiny old-town core lies a compact commercial centre that comes merrily to life on summer weekend nights. Behind this, the town’s newer housing and anonymous light-industrial warehouses sweep up towards an inspiringly barren ring of moorland hills.

As you enter Hotel Føroyar, the journey to the view begins. This first part of the journey is the build up. Dark corridors like inside a puffin cave, with some hints of what is to come. Finally, you enter your room, open the curtains. There it is. Hotel Føroyar was designed by Friis and Moltke to really allow you to experience the vast nature of the Faroe Islands. Surrounded by nature, as if it were carved in the rocks, only the rocks now appear to be glass shimmering in the light. Inside the main building of Hotel Føroyar is an eternally changing play of light and shade, between long dark passages and light and friendly rooms. Most of the rooms share the impressive panoramic view over Tórshavn.

On this adventure we’ll hike from BØUR to GÁSADALUR, from TÓRSHAVN to KIRKJUBØUR and finish our days at the beautiful Hotel Føroyar. With 5-Star chefs and a newly renovated spa, it’s the perfect place to unwind after a day spent exploring.
