LIVE ALIVE PLAYLIST: ADVENTURE 101

Two words: Walter Mitty.
Ok, six words: The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Never heard of it? Watch it now. Why, you ask? This movie is full of adventure and has one of the most epic soundtracks. If you’re an avid adventurer, there are two iconic songs that are bound to be on any adventure, wanderlust, get out there and explore type playlist:
“Step Out” by Jose Gonzalez
“Dirty Paws” by Of Monsters and Men
What I’ve discovered with music, is that music is a way to enhance any experience -from practicing yoga to standing in line at airport security. Imagine boarding an airplane with “We Fly High (Ballin’)” by Jim Jones playing through your headphones, or driving through Zion National Park with your hand sticking out the window touching the dry, warm desert air with “A Moment Apart” by ODESZA blasting out of the car’s speakers. There is something magically created when combining adventure and music together. It’s an experience that can’t be fully described in words, but felt through sensations and emotions running through your body.
For me, music is my bliss. I listen to a lot of music, and I mean 87,853 minutes of music on Spotify in 2018 a lot. On my first Live Alive Adventure to Cambutal, Panama I was dubbed DJ Lim Lim: DJ because I make bomb ass playlists; Lim Lim because the airport printed my luggage tag wrong (to be honest, this happens ALL the time).
I still have vivid memories from this Adventure -drinking Panamanian beers after a sunrise surf session and dancing to Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody,” sitting in the van on the way to a hidden waterfall while singing “Hands to Myself” by Selena Gomez, speaking (yes, speaking) “Waves” by Miguel at our Panamanian wedding, and singing “Sorry” by Justin Bieber on the bus ride back to Panama City.
These songs may not be the songs you think of when it comes to adventure (stay tuned, I got you covered on basic adventure songs), however these were the songs that created a connection between every single human on this adventure. That’s what makes music so magical! It creates an opportunity for humans to connect with one another.
So here is the “I got you covered” portion of this blog post. I curated a 2 hour playlist with songs to ignite your adventure taste buds (you best believe those 2 iconic songs from the Walter Mitty soundtrack are on there). Traveling and truly experiencing an adventure during your travels is kinda like eating Pringles, “Once You Pop, You Can’t Stop” (although I heard the current slogan is “Once You Pop, The Fun Don’t Stop” #true #stillapplicable). After each adventure, I bet you start planning your next one -BET!
Disclaimer: Allow music to be a way to enhance your adventure, not a means to escape what’s happening. If you’re on a hike allow yourself to hear nature -the wind, the birds, the flow of the river. If you’re walking in a new city, listen. Listen to the cars driving by, the church bells ringing, the conversations between people. Embrace your surroundings and hear the sounds (or as Amara would say, see the sounds).
Blogging Adventurer: Jamie Lim
Jamie Lim is a certified 200-hour yoga teacher and avid adventurer. Her love for adventure began in 2016, with Live Alive Adventures (at the time, BIG Retreats), in Cambutal, Panama. It was the decision of choosing to go on this adventure that Jamie experienced her first true sense of adventure -exploration of unknown territory with the world, with others and with herself.
Since Panama, she continues to explore the unknown with Live Alive and on her own. She’s ventured off to Venice and Rome where she ate gelato every single day, Munich where she experienced the tradition of Oktoberfest, Zion National Park where she completed her very first hike, Dublin where she drank her first pint of Guinness at the Guinness Storehouse, and many other places.
A creative and visionary at heart, Jamie can easily be dubbed as the hype girl within our Live Alive family. She always know which song to play (shoutout DJ Lim Lim), captures priceless moments with her camera and is able to connect with others in her own unique way.
